Ten Films That You Will Need to See on TV

Every so often, there comes a movie that is so deep and complex that you need to watch scenes again to make sure you got everything. The Usual Suspects, Memento and Lost Highway are a few great examples from the last two decades, but two more recent quality mind-benders are Syriana (2005) and Primer (2004). Themed on the oil industry and time travel respectively, both have hugely complex scripts that can be difficult to follow, so being able to watch a scene again can help you keep up and get your head around what's happening.

Lots of people like a good weepy - particularly the female of the species! However, not everyone likes crying in public, even if it's in the darkness of a cinema. If this sounds like you, then you'll feel more comfortable watching films like The Notebook (2004) and Sophie's Choice (1982) in the privacy your living room, complete with tissues, ice cream and partner to cuddle up to. Both are perfect for a quiet if slightly emotional Sunday night in.

Horror movies come in many styles and formats, but the sub-genre of mockumentary horror is perfect for your living room. Movies like Cloverfield (2008) and Paranormal Activity (2009) are shot in a hand-held, 'home movie' style that looks right at home on your TV screen. Plus, if you jump out of your skin, nobody will see you do it! If you like suspense, shocks and frights, both of these will suit you down to the ground.

If you have a new flat screen TV, then you'll want a movie that will really show off what it can do. Only an HD Ready 1080p model can truly demonstrate the beauty of visually stunning movies like Avatar (2009) and The Matrix (1999), which both feature revolutionary developments in computer animation. However, if you have a new 3D television, then get hold of Monsters vs Aliens (2009) and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009), the world's first two movies to demonstrate the astounding capabilities of 3D home technology.

There are loads of other films out there that are perfect for home viewing, particularly if you have a home cinema surround sound system in place. The only problem is finding the time to watch them all!
